An ideal fertilizer providing both nitrogen and sulfur. Ammonia sulfate (commonly known as ammonium sulfate) is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula (NH₄)₂SO₄.
It is produced by the reaction of sulfuric acid with ammonia. It is a white, crystalline fertilizer that is easily soluble in water and exhibits acidic properties.

This is its most common application. It is particularly preferred for plants that require both nitrogen and sulfur. It is ideal for sulfur-sensitive plants such as potatoes, tea, corn, cotton, onions, garlic, legumes, and fruit trees.
Used as an ammonia source in chloramine disinfection in wastewater treatment plants.
E220 is a food additive (regulator) used as a yeast nutrient in flour and bread production. It is also a fermentation aid in some beverages.
